What is Cumulative GPA?
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average, a standardized way of extracting and presenting academic performance and progress. It is commonly used widely in schools, colleges and universities worldwide. Expressing results by percentage expresses results through a broad score. CGPA is a scaled representation of academic achievement as opposed to percentage or better said alongside it. This makes it easy to compare academic performance across different grading systems.
CGPA helps students, teachers and institutions a lot in understanding academic performance and progress on different scales. Also, CGPA provides consistency and uniformity in grading. For example, CGPA systems like 4.0, 5.0 and 10.0 grading scales are widely adopted by education boards across the country and abroad and help in quick assessment and decision making of the academic performance of students.
Why is CGPA important?
CGPA is very important for the easy evaluation of students’ academic performance worldwide and to relieve the mental stress of students with low performance in comparison. It is also widely used by different educational institutions, employment agencies, and to simplify the recruitment of students in the higher education admission process.

Basic formula for converting percentage to CGPA
General formula: CGPA=Percentage/9.5
Example:
76% = 76/9.5=8.0
95% = 95/9.5=10.0
There is another formula for converting percentage to CGPA. That is- (Percentage+5)/10
So CGPA of 76%= (76+5)/10=81/10=8.1. On the other hand CGPA of 95=(95+5)/10=100/10= 10. We have seen that CGPA of 95% is 9.5 and there is no difference between (Percentage+5)/10 formula.
